CBD Helping PTSD Sufferers
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that is triggered by a terrifying event a person either experienced or witnessed. Some examples of stress-related environments that can cause this is warfare, sexual assault, and traffic collisions. A person may experience PTSD immediately after a traumatic event or they could develop symptoms years later, symptoms can vary from person to person. PTSD symptoms are generally grouped into four types: intrusive memories, avoidance, negative changes in thinking and mood, and changes in physical and emotional reactions. Those suffering from PTSD can be challenged with normal day to day activities affecting work and personal relationships. Studies have shown CBD is capable of helping those suffering from PTSD by improving the endocannabinoid system’s mediation of essential functions that include memory consolidation and retrieval. By activating CB1 and CB2 receptors located throughout this core system, cannabinoids could prompt the system to produce neurotransmitters that help promote happiness, pleasure, and memory. Cannabinoids can help prevent the traumatic memories and nightmares because of this it has become a popular treatment for PTSD patients that are combat veterans.
